"Everything Happens For a Reason"

Haley Gorecki, originally from Palatine, Illinois graduated from William Fremd High School in 2015. While attending Fremd, Haley was named Illinois Miss Basketball, Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year and Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015. She was a Parade All-America, two-time Mid-Suburban West Player of the Year and four-time All-Conference honoree. Haley was awarded with a Sun Times All-Area Team selection and guided Fremd H.S. to three straight Mid-Suburban League, (MSL) titles and four MSL West championships. Haley played under coaches Dave Yates and Coach David Townsend.

 

Haley won an athletic scholarship to Duke University where she earned a Psychology degree and Markets and Management Certificate. She played on the Women’s Basketball Team from 2015-2020. Haley was a shooting guard who played under Coach Joanne McCauley and served as captain her seniorand red-shirt senior year. Despite her injuries over the years, Haley found ways to set records. She became just the seventh Blue Devil to total over 500 points, 200 rebounds and 100 assists in their first 50 collegiate games in 2018-19. Haley reached 1,000 points in only 77 games. Haley was the first Duke player to average over 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in back-to-back seasons (2018-2019 and 2019-2020).

        

In the 2019-2020 campaign, Haley was the only power five conference player nationally to average over 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals.  That same season, she was the only player nationally with over 550 points, 195 rebounds, 130 assists, 60 steals and 15 blocked shots. In 2019 she was invited to the U.S Pan American Games, but was not able to attend due to injury. In her last season in 2019/2020 Haley was a WBCA Region I All-American, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American. She was one of five finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award as the top shooting guard in the nation. Haley was First Team All-ACC by Coaches & Blue Ribbon Panel, All-ACC Defensive Team, All-ACC Academic Team and a Naismith Trophy Midseason Candidate. She was drafted as the 31st pick in the WNBA draft to the Seattle Storm. Her first professional season was abroad in Zaragoza, Spain playing with Casademont.
